As an arts educator I have always enjoyed sharing the knowledge and experience of clay with other people. I currently do this by teaching regular weekly classes and through virtual and in-person workshops.

Clay Business 101

Are you ready to take your clay journey to the next level? In this four-week class you’ll learn all about what you need to start sharing and selling your work. We’ll cover artist statements and documenting your work, sharing your work with social media and websites, and all the ways you can sell your work, so you find what’s right for you.
Classes will take place in the front gallery of Ceramigos in South Austin.

Colored Clay Baskets
Mud Studio, Austin, TX
Sunday, June 7, 4--7pm
Sarah will teach her techniques for building colorful woven coil baskets in this hands-on workshop. Learn how Sarah lays out her architecturally inspired patterns and builds them through weaving coils to create delicate but strong colorful pieces. Students will learn how to color clay using stains, design and lay out their own basket pattern, and construct it while learning how to roll consistent coils, attach them to avoid cracking, and work with multiple colors of clay in one piece.

In this hands-on workshop, Sarah will teach her technique of building woven coil structures to create functional clay pieces. Learn how Sarah lays out her architecturally inspired patterns, builds them through weaving coils, and combines them with solid forms to create delicate but strong pieces.
Various techniques will be explored during the course of the workshop, including coloring clay, rolling consistent coils, weaving and attaching coils to avoid cracking, and working with multiple colors of clay in one piece.
All materials provided. Basic previous ceramics skills recommended.

I will work with you one-on-one to help you begin your clay journey, or help you get better at a particular aspect from my studio in SE Austin. From the basics of the pottery wheel, to more intermediate and advanced wheel techniques, hand-building techniques such as slabs or coils, or even learning more about decorating and glazing your pieces; we’ll work together to get you where you want to be.
$50/hr with a two-hour minimum per session. Includes materials and firing. Want to make it a date with a family member or a friend? I can accommodate two people on the wheel for $75/hr with a two-hour minimum. At this time, I am only offering private lessons for adults.
I am currently serving as a Coordinator for Greater Austin Clay Artists. GACA is an informal network of ceramic artists working in the Austin area who are committed to sharing a passion for clay and offering opportunities for professional and artistic development. We're a volunteer organization that has monthly meetings where we focus on sharing information about clay and network with fellow clay artists. Local artists volunteer their time and talent to give demonstrations, workshops, and slide presentations for the group’s benefit.
